The size of a chandelier depends heavily on the size of the space and the desired style outcome.
There is no exact answer, as the style of your chandelier and room will make a difference. In general, a chandelier should be placed 30 to 40 inches above the table in a room with eight foot ceilings. If the ceiling is higher than eight feet, shorten the chain by a three more inches for each extra foot of ceiling height.
If you have a bowl type chandelier, it should be high enough above the table that you cannot see into the bowl.
The best way to ensure a chandelier does not fall is to install it properly. If your chandelier is heavy, make sure the chandelier is securely mounted to the ceiling box. Follow all of the instructions sent by the manufacturer and make sure it is screwed in firmly.
Yes, just make sure the dimmer switch will work with the wattage of your bulbs. Also make sure the dimmer is suitable for use with a chandelier.
Attach a clean, lightweight sock to a thin feather duster. Spray the sock with window cleaner and use it to clean the chandelier. To clean the glass baubles, place a towel in the bottom of a sink, fill with water and add some dishwashing detergent and rubbing alcohol. Remove the baubles from the chandelier, place them in the water and let them soak and dry.
There are also several chandelier glass cleaners available. Place newspaper on the floor beneath the chandelier and spray the chandelier with cleaner. The cleaner will remove the dirt and drip to the floor.
